Kenya Politics news

The results of this year’s General Election are in and they have come with a couple of firsts in the history of Kenya’s elections.

The country is set to have its first female county bosses in Former Lands CS Charity Ngilu(Kitui County), Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Mumbi Waiguru(Kirinyaga County), and National Assembly deputy speaker Joyce Laboso who slayed a ‘giant'(Isaac Rutto) in Bomet County.

Also worth noting as a first is the 24-year-old Mount Kenya University student, John Mwirigi, who is poised to become the youngest MP( Igembe South) when sworn in.

Another first that has never been heard of in the history of elections happened in Kwale County.

Member of the County Assembly (MCA) candidates, Juma Maone of Jubilee Party and Omari Hamisi of ODM,  got a similar number of votes.

Both candidates garnered 2,600 votes in Kinondo Ward and a by-election awaits its residents.

But before IEBC announced a date would be set for the by-election, officials had erred by giving the Jubilee candidate his election certificate.

The certificate had been handed to Mr Maone, who was ahead of Mr Omari, despite results from one polling station in Msambweni not having been incorporated in the final tally at the time.

When poll results from Msambweni were collated, the final tally showed that Mr Omari and Mr Maone had tied at 2,600 votes.

Maone’s certificate was consequently revoked.

Msambweni Constituency Returning Officer,  Mr. Yusuf, said a date for the by-election will be communicated.
