When he was launching his manifesto last month, Nairobi Governor – elect had outlined seven priority areas that he said he will address in the first 100 days of his tenure.

These included housing and settlement, education and health, environment, traffic management and transport, jobs and social inclusion.

The one that that stood out ( and to th relief of business owners, landlords and motorists) was the promise to reduce land rates, parking fees, license fees to the levels before Dr Evans Kidero’s tenure.

REDUCE PARKING FEES

He said he will reduce parking fees by half and abolish trade licenses for small businesses in the city.

“You will pay only Sh150 for parking if Mike Sonko is elected the next governor of Nairobi,” said Sonko.

He also promised to review contracts signed by the current administration and revoke illegal ones in his first 100 days.

Sonko pledged to establish traffic control command centres and give incentives to those interested in investing in high capacity buses.

He also promised to provide additional road signage, designate bicycle lanes and fully implement the Nairobi Metropolitan Decongestion plan.

TAX EXEMPT

Vegetable vendors, salon owners in slums would be exempt from tax once he assumes office. The tax exemption would be extended to all traders who run small businesses.

“After Governor Kidero assumed power back in 2013, his administration hiked taxes by a hundred percent. We will ensure that the poor are exempted so that we can ensure there is equal development in the city,” added Sonko.
