Kenya Politics news

The results are in and Jubilee has carried the day on all levels of government.

All indications are that President Uhuru Kenyatta will serve a second term. Right from the word go, Uhuru opened a safe gap between him and Raila and has stuck there ever since. From the IEBC results trickling in, Uhuru might walk away with 54% of the vote, which translates to over 8 million votes.

With 6.5 million at the time of this writing, Raila is the second most popular man in Kenya.

But the person who received the 3rd highest number of votes in Kenya is not Sonko like last time, but quite an unlikely lady.

With a total of 897 322 votes, at a 97% transmission rate as of this writing, Gathoni Wamuchomba has been elected the new Kiambu woman representative.

The popular former Kikuyu radio presenter basically sealed the deal when she won the Jubilee nomination ticket, and Tuesday was just a confirmation. She walked away with 94.2%, with her closest rival, Jane Wanjiru Chege clocking in at just 25,223 (2.65%).

Gathoni’s numbers are probably the highest attained by a non-presidential candidate in Kenya’s history, and she owes this fete to Kiambu’s large registration numbers.

Incoming Nairobi governor Mike Sonko clocked in at 825 834 votes with nearly all of them counted.

Also getting big numbers were incoming Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu with 741 744 votes, incoming Nakuru senator Susan Kihika with 638,661, Esther Passaris with 831,682 and outgoing Nairobi governor Evans Kidero with 661 465 votes.
