The incredible journey in Mike Sonko’s political career has culminated in him becoming Nairobi governor.

The flamboyant politician has taken a commanding lead, leaving Kidero in the dust by almost 200,000 votes. As we had predicted, Sonko got more votes in Nairobi than Uhuru, while Raila got more than Kidero. This perhaps is a pointer that Nairobians were not as much influenced by political parties of presidential choice.

Sonko’s tally currently stands at 53.46% with just a few polling stations left, making it mathematically impossible for Kidero to close the gap.

It is also good news for Jubilee in Nairobi, as Johnstone Sakaja looks likely to take the senate seat. Sakaja has opened a 130,000 vote gap between him and ODM’s Edwin Sifuna. His tally stands at 51% with Sifuna sitting at 42%.

But NASA will take the woman representative seat, with Passaris currently standing at 53% and Jubilee’s Shebesh 43%.

Still in Nairobi, activist Boniface Mwangi became the first politician to concede in this election, after finishing third in the Starehe race. He came behind Charles Njagua (Jaguar) who won the seat, and ODM’s Steve Mbogo.
