According to IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, the sacking of the three returning officers was meant to ensure that voters were not inconvenienced and that elections are conducted to the highest standards possible.

Mr Chebukati assured residents that commissioners have been deployed to supervise the exercise and would not hesitate to take stern action to ensure officials toed the line.

He added that the commission has been experiencing challenges in Nairobi county which has the highest number of registered voters.

“In some polling stations in Embakasi East, Kasarani and Westlands we have experienced delayed opening. We have immediately replaced the returning officers in these three constituencies and deployed Commissioners to ensure efficient management of these locations, he said.
