Thousands of Agriculture Development Cooperation (ADC)workers in Trans Nzoia county have a reason to smile after the National Government paid them Sh200 million 14 years salary arrears.

Addressing the workers yesterday in Endebess area, MP Robert Pukose, who handed over the cheque to ADC management, said that for many years workers have been suffering due to lack of salary and wages.

“We would like to thank the government for moving with speed and addressing the issue that nearly grounded operations. ADC has not been paying their employees. They have only been giving them milk and maize.

We will ensure that from today your monthly salary is regular,” he said. The legislator said ADC owes financial institutions millions of shilling that need to be paid before the cooperation is revived.

“ADC owns thousands of acres of land that can be used to generate salaries for its employess. ADC should initiate projects that will generate more revenue,” added Pukose.

ADC Managing director Richard Ayabei said the new management has given priority to employee welfare adding that soon the corporation would start improving housing condition.

Joseph Wepukhuku said ADC workers have not received their salaries since 2008. “I thank the government for remembering people working in ADC farms we suffered for many years, our children have not gone to school and are now working with us in the farm,” he said.
